Secure the supplies that you will need
The first thing that you need to do is to secure the supplies that you will need for tire lettering. You can put any color you want but the most common is white followed by yellow. You will need cardboard, rags, tire cleaner, fine tip and medium tip oil-based tire marker pen.
Start to remove the tires
As soon as you secured all the materials, you can start instantly. However, you need to remove the tire from your car so you can work with ease.
Clean the tires thoroughly
For the lettering to be successful, you need to clean the tires first. This is when you will use your tire cleaner. Scrub the dirt and oil from the lettering area. If you have more time, you can clean the whole tire. If you applied tire shine, it is crucial that you out extra elbow grease to remove it all. You will know if it is totally clean when it starts to look dull. Finish by wiping a clean rag until the tires are dry.
Check the quality of the pen
You need to use the medium tip marker then the fine tip marker. Shake both and then thrust the tips against the cardboard or any piece of paper. Do this repetitively until the paint starts to come out. Notice if it is well saturated. Once it is, you can start painting.
Start to have fun
The next step is enjoyable. You can now start to color the letters using the medium tip marker. Fill in the centers first. After that, you should outline it using a fine tip paint marker. If you accidentally color outside the lines, you should cover the paint using a black marker. Do not forget to wear gloves and old clothes when painting because it is difficult to wash out the paint in case it will stick to your clothes.
Touch up and apply another coat if needed
Check if you missed some spots and let it dry. If you want the lettering to look brighter, you can always apply another coat. If you want to apply more than one coat, do not press the market too hard because it may peel up the first coat. Do it gently. As soon as it is dry, you need to put it back.
